Etalons are used in a very wide range of applications, where the full benefits of their high resolution and high transmission can be utilized.
Etalons manufactured by SLS Optics are used for diagnostic and control purposes in scientific establishments and in industry worldwide. Scientific users generally require a single, custom-designed etalon. This is where our considerable experience in optical fabrication and thin-film coating technology provides major benefits for the customer. At any particular time there are always custom etalons in design and manufacture at SLS Optics.
We also produce etalons in OEM quantities for diverse applications in the laser industry ranging from wavelength references for telecommunications wavebands in the infrared to more conventional uses such as mode selection and line narrowing. In this area we are a world leader in the design and manufacture of highly specialized etalons used to control the centre wavelength and bandwidth of the deep ultraviolet lasers employed in lithography: the fundamental process used to produce silicon chips. Working closely with our customers we have developed proprietary optical fabrication and coating techniques in order to meet very stringent performance, reliability and lifetime criteria.
Our considerable experience in this the most demanding spectral area addressed by conventional optics puts us in a very advantageous position when we are required to design and manufacture etalons for less demanding spectral regions; it is true to say that etalon users are seeking higher performance whatever the spectral region.
